Hemp has been used for eons to make all sorts of things, yet it has only ventured into the world of mainstream baby textiles (like clothing and cloth diapers) relatively recently. And it is easy to see why it is growing in popularity.
First of all hemp can grow pesticide free (unlike cotton, which requires much more chemical intervention to grow and process). In addition, hemp is naturally antifungal, antibacterial and non-allergenic (translation: no mold, mildew or fungus buildup in your diapers and less diaper rash for baby).
Plus its fibrous nature allows it to breathe better than cotton, creating better air circulation.
This not only decreases diaper rash (in diaper products), but is useful for regulating temperature for sleeping babies when used hemp is used in sleepsacks. And did you know that hemp fabric is three times stronger than cotton? In fact it is the strongest natural fiber known to man! After all they have been making rope out of it for years. Because it is so strong, you can count on hemp products to last. Many moms say that hemp products actually soften and "break in" like a pair of your most comfy jeans. So, whether it's diapers, sleepsacks, baby clothes etc. you can't really go wrong with hemp. Maybe the real question should be: Why not hemp?
